Physical Wellness
Philosophy
At Our Savior we believe that our bodies are to be treasured, that physical wellness is supportive of academic success, and that physical education is a testament to our commitment to educating the whole child.
Recess
Every grade has supervised but unstructured time outdoors every day, with a variety of activities available. This flexibility in activities fosters an environment of creative, self-organized play which refreshes and encourages focus in children’s minds. We firmly believe that this time produces better classroom results, both academically and behaviorally.
Physical Education
The Physical Education program at Our Savior is structured to encourage healthy lifestyles by exposing students to fundamental fitness concepts (such as the importance of warm-ups and stretching), the fundamentals of a variety of sports and games. PE allows students to explore new fitness and sports interests and fosters teamwork. Students have PE days each week, and are asked to wear tennis shoes on those days.
Our Savior participates in an annual fitness program, which helps our school achieve excellence in physical education and gives students the chance to measure progress at a variety of skills year-to-year. In the past, Our Savior students have also participated together in Arlington County club sports teams, based on student and parent interest.
