Student Life and Activities
Annual traditions provide leadership opportunities for each grade, and give the school community events to come together for. These foster a sense of community and accomplishment as students work alongside parents and teachers to create events they enjoy along with their schoolmates. The examples below are just a few of the activities that happen at OSLS.
Lutheran Schools Week
Lutheran Schools’ Week is a nationwide week celebrating the blessing of Lutheran schools, and involves many fun in-school traditions. Lutheran schools across the country are united as they participate in themed spirit activities and special services and events.
Fall Carnival
Every year school families get together for a carnival hosted by the PTL and run by teachers and parents for school and church families to enjoy together. It’s traditional family fun in a school carnival atmosphere, with games, prizes, and concessions hosted in the gym and fellowship hall.
Field Day
As the school year draws to a close, and with summer approaching, field day provides an opportunity every spring for physical activity in a spirit of Christian fellowship, competition, and fun. Students begin the day with a Sportsmanship Pledge before competing in activities including an obstacle course, sack race, soccer kick, sprints, football throws, and shot put. Students enjoy a hot dog lunch in Alcova Park and conclude with a tug-of-war competition between classes. Parent volunteers help time, measure, and cheer!
