History
Established in 1952
Our Savior Lutheran School has provided quality Christian education to the Arlington community for over 65 years. The school began with a kindergarten class in the Fellowship Hall and has now grown to a pre-kindergarten through 8th grade program in a facility expanded in 2002.
school history
During World War II, the original members of Our Savior worked diligently to build a church even after being denied building permits by the War Department. Those dedicated early members already had a vision of a Lutheran church and school in Arlington, and today, more than 65 years later, OSLS has served Arlington for three generations.
Since its humble beginnings in the Arlington Cinema (today the Arlington Cinema Drafthouse) in 1941, OSL has been an integral member of the Columbia Pike neighborhood. Investment in the school began years before the school, which was officially opened in 1952 and quickly moved into an education center added onto the original church building between 1953 and 1956.
Since that time, the school has continued to expand its services as needs and opportunities have arisen. When a new church building was dedicated in the fall of 1984, the school expanded into the old church spaces, and in 2002 additions were made to both the school and church buildings, adding 4 new classrooms, a dedicated school office, and a half court gymnasium. Today, the school continues to thrive alongside the church on Our Savior Lutheran’s campus.
