Academics
Educating children and challenging them academically in a safe, Christian environment is why Our Savior Lutheran School exists.
Curriculum
Our students experience a comprehensive education that ensures they are learning fundamentals and reaching their full potential - from elementary through middle school.
Teachers at all grade levels blend proven resources and techniques with technology. Thanks to small class sizes, they can provide individualized attention and meet students where they are in their learning journeys.
All students learn about the Christian faith through age-appropriate Bible lessons, weekly chapel time, scripture memorization, music and art.
Physical Education and Recess
Physical Education and unstructured recess time is part of every student’s day. Every class has P.E. twice a week for 30 minutes, as well as two daily 30-minute outdoor recess sessions. We believe that physical wellness is supportive of academic success and a key factor in educating the whole child. Students also benefit from the chance to develop friendships across grades outside the classroom.
Elementary
-
Full-day pre-K open to students who are 4 years old by Sept. 30, with before and after school care available. Through play and exploration, students grow in skills like cognitive learning, critical thinking, fine and gross motor skill development, creativity, social interaction, and emotional development.
-
Students are immersed in literature rich environments that promote reading and writing, vocabulary, accuracy, fluency, and comprehension.
Hands-on activities build a foundation for higher math skills, and students will explore and learn about the world around them through thematic units in science and social studies.
Students learn appropriate spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar with formal instruction in cursive handwriting for second graders.
Math skills focus on addition and subtraction, and multiplication is introduced in second grade. Students also learn how to apply math concepts in the real world, like counting money and telling time.
To complement classroom instruction, students have the opportunity to attend field trips to theaters, museums, and other local landmarks.
-
Students develop reading comprehension skills, build vocabulary, and become more independent readers. They can uncover deeper meanings and messages in novels and short stories, while developing writing skills with clarity, structure, and correct grammar.
Students expand their science skills through experiences with material, direct observations and experimentation, including hands-on experiments.
In math, they master their foundational skills to solve multi-step word problems and prepare for pre-algebra.
Outside of the classroom, students go on field trips to historical sites and have opportunities to mentor younger students.
Middle School
-
High school preparation is a key goal for our students transitioning from elementary to middle grades. Students can earn high school credit through our algebra, Spanish, and geography classes.
-
Starting in sixth grade, they move to different classrooms throughout the day and are encouraged to take on more responsibility. Middle schoolers serve as leaders and mentors to younger students, including as Chapel Buddies and serving as acolytes in chapel services.
-
Students will have more challenging daily assignments and long term projects, along with experiences outside the classroom on field trips.
Accreditation
